Praising God in
song

I chose the worship singing track
because singing has always been a huge part of my life,
especially this past year. I know it’s something that
God has gifted me with, and I wanted to learn how to
better use that gift to serve him and minister to
others.
Tim Neufeld first talked to all of
us in the worship track about having the right view of
what worship really is and how to lead others in true
worship. He talked about worship being a lifestyle not
just music or church. He said that when we lead worship
its not just about ourselves and God It’s about everyone
worshipping God together and we as leaders have to bring
the congregation into that and lead by example.
Then we met in interest groups and
Sarah was the singing leader. She talked about two
things: having the right heart when leading worship and
being excellent at what you do. Sarah talked a lot about
being humble and working together as a worship team
rather than making your self sound good and forgetting
about everyone else. The part about excellence was the
technical aspect of singing.
After a lunch break we came back
to learn the songs we were going to sing with i268 (the
Tabor College worship team that lead singing Tuesday
morning). We first started learning the songs accapella
because they couldn’t get the electric piano to work.
Then Jared from i268 came with his guitar. After a few
more minutes the soundman asked us to leave the ballroom
so that he could set up.
We relocated to the hallway and
kept singing. In the more enclosed space it sounded
amazing! The guitar, the melody, the harmony and about
30 to 40 kids praising God. It was awesome. I could have
stood there and sang, or even listened, forever. I guess
it was just a glimpse into what heaven will be like.
I co-lead the singing part of
worship in my Wednesday night youth group. It was really
neat to learn what exactly leading worship is and how to
do it. I’m planning on taking what I learned and using
it to be a better leader on Wednesday nights and any
other time I get a chance to lead worship.
