Palm Sunday in Hollywood
Abby Faul
Harvey (ND) MB Church

When I first looked at the ministry track list, I was lost. The choices were endless! Finally I decided to just pick something that sounded interesting and that’s how I ended up doing the Palm Sunday church visit. I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen or what I was getting myself into, but I was excited.

When it was time for the ministry tracks, our track leader announced that our group was going to visit First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. Now I don’t know about you, but when I think of Hollywood the first thing I think of isn’t church. So I was anxious to see what types of people were going to be there.

The director told us that this was going to be like no other church service we had ever been to before. As we pulled up into the parking lot, our leader announced that the service we were going to attend wasn’t being held in the actual church building, but across the street at Vanguard, a nightclub.

I was amazed that we were actually going to church in a nightclub! But what really amazed me was that it didn’t matter to these people that the night before, girls were dancing on the tables. It didn’t matter that the congregation was made up of people of all different races, ages, backgrounds and people who were just different in general. They were in church to learn about God.

Another thing that really impressed me was the worship team. One of the leaders was a girl who, as soon as we started singing, began to dance! At first I was wondering what she was doing because, to me at least, she looked really funny. But after I had watched her for a few minutes, I realized the reason she wasn’t aware of anyone watching her, was because she was praising God, her way.
