I am a pastor in south central Pennsylvania. My wife is a former Mormon, and before moving to Pennsylvania 2 years ago we lived in central Utah for four years. Our motive in moving there was to serve in a missionary capacity. I worked full time as a high school teacher, and we led a small group which we hoped would develop as a church plant, but the timing and location didn't allow that to come to fruition.

I hold an MA in Theological Studies from Asbury Seminary. I've also published a book on Evangelical perspectives on Mormonism, and my wife and I have a long term dream of returning to Utah, particularly the southern part, to plant a church there. With all this in mind, I was very interested in your posting for a potential church planter in that area.

What is your time frame for a church plant in Southern Utah, and what are your criteria for potential church planters?

Thank you,
Mike Mitchell

Thanks, Mike.
Sorry it took a long time to get back to you. We are currently subsidizing a church plant in the southern part of Utah, and we could see that area as a potential location for additional church plants. Likely, that will not occur for another year or more. Our criteria for assessing church planters includes face-to-face visits, completion of a pre-assessment through Church Planter Profiles, and then if these steps are positive and a location isolated, we have a full assessment of the planter couple done by an independent assessing team.

If you're interested, contact me at don@missionusa.net and I can help you further.

Thanks,
Don

Go for it, Mike!

I was raised in a largely Mormon town in Nevada and still have many Mormon friends. I think we should take the offensive in the enemy's territory. (The LDS people themselves are not enemies, but the source of their religion is).

I would love to be involved in church planting. I don't have the xarism, temperament, or resources to do it alone, but would go for the idea of being on a team. There are many opportunities. Especially among college student populations.

Thanks for your comment! I would encourage you to check out some of the stories we have on this website about our church plants in Utah. We are in the process of planting the 4th MB church in the Salt Lake City area and also have a plant in St. George. Obviously there is much work to be done in this predominantly LDS culture. West Valley City is the location of the latest plant.

Contact me with your info at don@missionusa.net

Good to see the plan to plant churches in Utah. I believe Mennonites would be especially good witnesses to Mormons as they have a strong sense of community, they have an agrarian/rural background as do Mormons, and they are devoted and happy people.

Would like to talk to someone about church-planting, as I consider missions and new works as my xarism. Am open to ideas and opportunities!
